New Monitor, SyncMaster T240

Last friday I bought a new 24" monitor. There was some trouble getting it to work with the resolution 1920×1200 in ubuntu and nvidia drivers. So I thought I would post some of my settings in case anyone else have the same trouble. Just to clarify some of the setting. I have an old syncmaster 213T also in a dual screen setup. I'm runnung Ubuntu. I'm not sure if all these settings is really nessesary but at least it works!

A new year, a new beginning…

JLr7 watchWhat is better than start a new year with a new clock? When I saw the clock pictured at right I just had to buy it. I have not really cared much about wrist watches since I don't see the reason for using them when you always has the mobile phone with you. But this looked more fun than a regular watch and it's true, it is more fun.

First people look at it and is wondering what it is then after a while they ask and I try to explain that it is a clock and they say "WHAT?.." Then I have to push the button on the clock and explain them. Then they start laughing and says that I'm crazy…  And when I say that it has "Party mode" then they laugh even more.

When I opened the box with the clock I thought I had to get a battery inserted since it was all black but then I pushed a button on the side and the clock lighted up. First of I was a bit dissapointed that you had to push the button for showing the time but now that I has used it for some days it is okay and I think it is a bit more interesting this way because it looks even stranger when you use it.

what is going on?

I am still alive!

So what is going on? Not much really, but I have taken up a old hobby of mine. I bought a new RC car specially build for drifting. It is a Tamiya TT-01d. I have had some rc cars earlier. The last one was a Traxxas Nitro Hawk. The new one is a electric rc car. The last time I had a electric rc car was when I was a kid and it didn’t drive very fast but it was possible to open the doors from the remote.

F-spot

Last coupple of days I have imported my pictures into F-spot It is a pretty photo management program. You can tag pictures with different words and select wich tags you want to view. It takes some time but I think it’s worth it in the long run. Other nice features of F-spot is that it can export pictures to different programs. From CDs to the Flickr website. You should check out the program! You should have in mind that the program is under development, but it works well and I think it’s the best photo management for linux I have tried.

Ubuntu linux

Yesterday I installed ubuntu linux on my laptop that I use for work. I was a bit nervous before the install because I didn’t want to destroy the windows part of the disk. But after a while everything worked out nicely. It was pretty easy to install.

After I installed ubuntu I fired up evolution for checking the mail. At work I live in a totally windows enviroment so we have the mail on exchange server of course, but after Novell bought ximian (the makers of evolution) they have released the exchange plugin for free. So after some error messages I got it working. I’m not sure what was wrong, but it’s working now :)

My second problem was getting the citrix client working. I installed one, but it wouldn’t work. So after a while I went to bed, I didn’t have time to test stuff at work today. But when I got home I had some time too test out different stuff. First I installed java and tested the java client and it worked almost without any problems. After reading on some forums I got the linux client working also. The trick was to disable sound in the client. That is fine because we have disabled sound on the server side also. So I have almost every program I need too run linux on my workstation at work.
